Entries are invited for the 2024 Bedfordshire Individual Chess Championship.

The tournament is open to players who meet one or more of the following criteria:

Is a member of a club that is affiliated to the Bedfordshire County Chess Association.
Was born in the county of Bedfordshire.
Is currently living in the county of Bedfordshire.

This tournament will be a six round Swiss competition. The opening round will be held at Milton Keynes Chess Club on Thursday, 4th  January 2024, starting at 19:30.

Players can arrange to play a round on a date and at a venue more convenient to themselves, providing they inform the Tournament Controller before the scheduled date given in the left hand column of the table above and that the game is played no later than the deadline date given in the right hand column of the table above. The first round must be completed no later than Saturday, 27th  January 2024.

Bedfordshire League rules will apply to this competition. The rate of play is 35 moves in 70 minutes, then 10 minutes will be added to finish the game. All moves will receive a 10 second increment.

Pairings will be made based on the English Chess Federation Standard play ratings published on 1st December 2023. Players without a rating will have one assigned to them for this competition by the Tournament Controller. All results will be submitted to the English Chess Federation for rating.

Players may request a ½ point bye for any round except Round six. A bye request for a particular round must be made before the deadline date of the previous round. A bye request for Round one must be made before the closing date for entries, which is Saturday, 23rd December 2023.

There will be cash prizes for the Champion and Runner-Up. There will also be a 'Slow Starter' prize for those with 1, a ½, or 0 points after three rounds. There may also be a Rating prize. The number and value of prizes is dependent on the number of entries received.

The entry fee is £5.00 for members of the English Chess Federation, or £25.00 for non-members. Entry fees can be paid by bank transfer prior to the date of the first round, or in cash on the evening of the first round at Milton Keynes Chess Club.
