Milton Keynes Chess Club Minutes 2009 The 2009 Annual General meeting of the Milton Keynes Chess Club took place on Thursday 10th September 2009. 1) Members present:- Dqave Phillips (President, Chair) Mark Andrews, John Barham, Graham Borrowdale, John Brogan, David Craigen, Adrian Elwin, Terry Field, Ben Grainger, Alan Heath, Ray Holland, Jonathan Horndsby, John McKeon, Francis Pearce, Tim Puleston, Raghav Ramesh, Ramnik Singh, George Ward, Dave Wells and Tim Woods. 2) Apologies:- R Freeman, P Kendall, A Clarke and B Hornsby. 3) The minutes of the 2008 AGM were approved. (no matter arising) 4) A discussion took place regarding junior chess and newcomers No one was prepared to take on a junior club. A report on weather we should stay in the Berril Café or return to the Refectory. We favoured the Refectory (ready on or about April 2010) Dave Phillip to keep up to date with developments. The Berrill Café will not be available on the 3rd of December 2009 Adrian to inform the league organizer. 5)
Financially the year was not as successful as 2008 with income
falling and expenses rising resulting in a small loss of £151.03
compared to a surplus of £181.97 in the previous year. The bank
account still shows a healthy balance of £2,125.63 which represents
around 3.5 years of expenditure. For this reason I would propose
retaining the current rates of subscriptions. £15.00 full and £9.00
concessionary. Income has fallen in line with the decline in
membership. 15 members left the club in the year and only 6 new members
joined. Total membership is now 39, 29 full rate, 9 concessions and one
exempt. Expenses have increased due to the purchase of boards and
pairing cards, (none in 2008) and also catching up with payments for
grading fees, which include those for last year, and trophies (none in
2008). All the club’s equipment was accounted for in the annual stock
take although three additional mechanical clocks were identified as
broken. 6) Adrian reported that Florin won the club championship followed by himself and Richard Freeman. The swiss was won jointly by Adrian and Raghav. The under 140 was won by Tim Woods with George Ward runner up and the Plate was won by Ray Holland with Brian Hornsby runner up. 7) Captains Reports.
Adrian Elwin A team Won the league by 5 match points.
9) No other business.
